Pierce County Active Living & Healthy Eating

The Problem

Obesity rates in Pierce County have risen steadily over the past 20 years due to many factors interacting at various levels. The result is ever-increasing rates of chronic health problems, starting at younger ages. This increases health care costs, decreases quality of life, and adversely affects performance at school and work.

The Solution

The mission of the Healthy Pierce website is to provide the Pierce County community with a comprehensive one-stop source for active living and healthy eating resources to inspire and facilitate opportunities for individual and community action.

We need to change policies so that everyone can live, work, play, and learn in environments that protect and actively promote health. There are currently many barriers that make it difficult for people to be physically active and eat healthy food.

Many groups in Pierce County are currently working on health improvement and obesity prevention initiatives. To achieve the greatest results, communication and collaboration among all of these groups is essential. The Healthy Pierce web site will provide the place to go for information on active living, healthy eating, and related efforts in Pierce County and beyond.
